Memorial Hut
Memorial Hut is situated on the lower western side of the loop road at Iwikau village, Mt Ruapehu (Top o' the Bruce).
How to get there.
It is within 10 minutes walk of the chair lifts, and is available to club members, prospective members & outside groups.
The Hut is used mainly as a skiing lodge, but is an ideal year-round base for tramping, climbing or exploring the surrounding Tongariro National Park.
It has 32 bunks (4 to 5 per room) and is fully carpeted and heated throughout. There are separate bathrooms for men and women, each containing two toilets, showers, hand basins, with a shaver point in the mens. Water can be limited so please keep showers short.
All bunks have mattresses and pillows are supplied (remember to bring a pillowcase) but you must bring your own bedding. Sleeping bags are preferable.
A spacious lounge affords spectacular panoramic views of the mountain. There is also a drying room and telephone.
The large well equipped kitchen and pantry allow all club trips to be fully catered. >>
General duties are rostered among trip participants.
Guests always find something to amuse themselves …
… especially on those occasions when getting to and from the Hut is a little more challenging.
