On Sunday 28 September we had an enjoyable walk on the Mahurangi Peninsula, from Martins Bay to Big Bay and back. Led and inspired by our president, Doug Astley, a group of us collected rubbish from the high-tide line on the return trip, mainly plastic bottles and shoes.

On the outward leg we’d hardly noticed it, a sad indictment on our growing acceptance of litter.
We collected about twice as much as is shown in the photo, and could have collected much more, but ran out of bags.
It was a good effort - let’s be tidy kiwis more often.
