Booking

You do not need to book for day trips - just turn up at one of the stated departure points and enjoy your day tramping!
If you are new to day trips, we recommend you contact the trip leader regardless.

Hunuas — Vining and Workman Tracks

Short: From Kaiaua Rd, over stile and across farm land, taking Vining Walkway to Mangatangi Trig Track and the trig, then on to the bridge on Workman Rd. Take the bus from there up to Waharau Regional Park Visitor Centre. Leader: Barbara Tokley, ph354 4280
Long (Fit): Same as short trip to the bridge, then up Workman Track and Waharau Ridge Track to the Waharau Regional Park Visitor Centre. Leader: Brent Rose, ph 570 5580

Destination: Workman Rd, southern Hunua Ranges

Note: Since the long trip is much longer than the short, the short party has the option of walking one or more colour-coded loop tracks ranging from 15 minutes to 1½ hrs.

Okura to Stillwater

Tramp through the attractive nikau/kauri bush reserve down to the beach and past the historic Dacre Cottage. Then it’s over the cliff track and drop down to lunch at Stillwater. The return trip goes round the coast and back through the bush. 4-5 hrs.

Stony Batter, Waiheke Island

Travel by mini bus to Stony Batter. After the tour of Stony Batter, there will be a walk of around 2-3 hours and time for a swim, then return to Matiatia in time for the 5.00pm ferry. If you are interested, please phone Karen Wesley, ( 575 2800, as numbers are limited on the minibuses. Buy your ticket and meet on the wharf.

Destination: Stony Batter

Departure: 9:00am Ferry Terminal downtown for Matiatia. Ferry also calls at Devonport at 9.10am.

Cost: Ferry: $32 adult, $16 child, SuperGold Card holders no charge Minibus to Stony Batter and return to Matiatia: $20 per person. (Sorry, no guided tour available today). Remember to bring a torch.

Tiritiri Matangi Island

This island was originally farmed and has been completely replanted and is now a bird sanctuary with wonderful viewings of most of our native birds, as well as some nice bush walks. Take all your own food and drink; no rubbish disposal on the island. There is a souvenir shop. Bring your togs for a swim. Advance booking is essential and, as this is Easter weekend, you should book your fare early. Book online at www.360discovery.co.nz or by phone 0800 360 3472 or in person at Pier 4 kiosk, Quay St.

On arrival, there is an optional 2-hr guided tour. This is worthwhile if you are a first-time visitor to the island as some of the birds are difficult to spot. Cost $5.00. Return trip ferry departs at 3.30pm.
